- The INCLUDE strategy guides teachers with a strategy to accommodate students of all needs in the classroom.
- I - Identify class demands
- N - Note student learning strengths and needs
- C - Check for potential areas of success
- L - Look for potential problem areas
- U - Use information to brainstorm differentiated instructional techniques
- D - Differentiate instruction
- E - Evaluate progress
- Accommodations vs. Modifications
- Accommodations are services that help students gain full access to class content and instruction
- Modifications are made when content expectations are altered and the outcomes expected from a student change.
- Differentiating Instruction Tip for Teachers: Select the easiest approach first. Accommodations should not interfere with instructing the whole class, and a teacher should choose the successful method that requires the least time and effort (i.e. circling special questions for a student rather than creating a separate worksheet).
- Scaffolding is a support by a teacher or peer that helps a student develop problem-solving skills and bridge the gap between "current abilities and the intended goal" (Roseshine & Meister, 1992).
